If you flatten out a cardboard box for a large art portfolio case, wrap each side in a large garbage bag before you duct tape the sides, bottom, and corners. The fold the extra part of the bags over the 'top'.
Make sure the bag is spread tightly, and try to grab thick-mil from the public cans the instant they're replaced.
It's surprisingly water- and snow-proof.
Handles are a little tricky, but doing a kind of 'double loop' of duct tape with separate squished handgrips works pretty well.
If you steal black duct tape, it doesn't look too 'homeless' from, oh, fifty feet or so...
